The Obama Administration has recklessly attempted to ram a government-controlled universal health care plan through Congress without adequate opportunity for debate and discussion. This unfunded mandate would bankrupt our country and cost American taxpayers more than $1 trillion.
The plan would fundamentally alter America's successful private health care system that works for 85 percent of all Americans. Many individuals and small business owners would be forced to give up their private plans in favor of government plans.
Seniors and patients would have less control over choosing their own doctor and treatments. Rationing would lead to fewer available health care resources while a government monopoly would stifle medical, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical innovations that save lives. And taxpayers would be forced to violate their consciences by funding abortions and questionable end-of-life counseling sessions.
Other private sector solutions can be used to help the chronically uninsured and poor. Medicare and Medicaid are rapidly nearing bankruptcy. We cannot afford to play political roulette with the lives of millions of Americans by handing over control of our health care system to a government with this failed track record?
