Top Reasons to Oppose Obama Health Care Proposal

The Obama Administration has recklessly attempted to ram a government-controlled universal health care plan through Congress without adequate opportunity for debate and discussion. The plan threatens the health, prosperity, and freedom of all Americans.

High Costs Bankrupt America:
The Obama plan will cost American taxpayers more than $1 trillion. Under President Obama, America already has an annual $1.8 trillion budget deficit and borrows 46 cents for every dollar our government spends. How could we possibly pay for this, even if we wanted to?

Attack on Private Insurance:
The Obama plan will provide special benefits, such as tax advantages, to the so-called “public option.” This will undermine competition and force private insurers out of business, compelling Americans into public plans against their will. Some estimate that more than one third of Americans will be forced into government managed health care plans.

Raising Taxes:
The plan will raise the highest income tax rate and capital gains tax by 5.4 percent each. In addition, employers will be hit with an additional 8 percent payroll tax if they don’t provide health care benefits. This will harm small businesses and job creation—especially during a recession.

Rationing and Less Choice:
The Obama plan will interfere with the doctor patient relationship, and give government more power in choosing your doctor and medical treatments. In an effort to “control costs,” rationing of medical care will occur in America just as it has in Canada and the United Kingdom. Americans will be denied life-saving care—while suffering with longer waits and less access to diagnostics and treatment.

Defunding Medicare:
President Obama and Congressional Democrats intend on paying for part of their health care overhaul by removing $500 billion from Medicare, which is already on a path towards fiscal insolvency.

Abortion and Conscience Issues: The current plan would force taxpayers to violate their consciences by funding abortions and questionable end-of-life counseling sessions.

Stifling Medical Advances: Greater government control of the health care industry would stifle medical, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical innovations that save lives. America leads the world in science, innovation, and medical technology because of our competitive free market system that allows for capital investment, new research and development, and a fair profit for those who discover the treatments that better our world.
