Obama Should Give Panetta Hook For Challenging Cheney's Patriotism and Politicizing CIA

Washington, D.C.— Citizens for the Republic (CFTR), a national conservative advocacy organization, is calling on President Obama to fire his CIA Director Leon Panetta for controversial remarks made about former Vice President Dick Cheney in The New Yorker magazine.

CIA director Leon Panetta has come under fire for implying in The New Yorker magazine that former Vice President Cheney is hoping for another terrorist attack against the United States in order to justify the tough Bush-Cheney anti-terror tactics that are now being dismantled by the Obama Administration.

In the article, Panetta said, "It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's [Cheney] wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point."

"CIA Director Panetta should be ashamed of himself, and President Obama should force him to resign immediately," said Stephen Manfredi, Executive Director of Citizens for the Republic. "Leon Panetta is abusing his post and politicizing the CIA with insulting and reprehensible comments such as these."

"Vice President Cheney served his country with honor," said Stephen Manfredi. "Regardless of political differences, Mr. Panetta has no business challenging his patriotism."
